On Monday, Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) announced they will be extending expiration dates for free night award certificates issued from the IHG co-branded credit cards.
Certificates expiring after March 1, 2020, can now be used through at least Dec. 31, 2020. And any certificates that are issued in 2020 will have an 18-month redemption window. This applies to hotel chains like Intercontinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and more. One Mile at a Time first reported the news.
This comes on the heels of Hyatt extending the free night certificate offered from their co-branded credit card through Dec.31, 2021. Hilton is also allowing all unexpired free weekend night certificates from March 11 through August 2020 to be extended for use until Aug. 31, 2021. And finally, Marriott extended its free night certificate expirations through Jan. 31, 2021 if the certificate is set to expire in 2020.
How to Earn the IHG Free Night Certificate
Just for holding the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card, you will get a free anniversary night certificate each year on your account anniversary. The certificate is valid at any property in the IHG portfolio that costs 40,000 points or less.
If you are able to use the free night certificate, you should be able to get much more value out of it than you are paying for the $89 annual fee. Not to mention, the card comes with a number of other benefits like automatic IHG Platinum Status, your fourth night free on award redemptions, and a credit of up to $100 for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry.
Additionally, now is a great time to apply for the card if you have the financial means to do so. That’s because it is offering a limited-time welcome offer bonus of 140,000 IHG Rewards Club points after spending $3,000 in the first three months of card membership.
