How to maximize Delta’s Pay with Miles
Delta has a great feature called Pay with Miles that only Delta American Express cardholders are extended. Delta’s Pay with Miles allows cardholders to pay for a cash fare with SkyMiles AND still earn additional SkyMiles as well as Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM) towards Medallion status. The ability to pay with SkyMiles becomes especially valuable when there is a fare sale.
From the Delta website: For travel on or after January 1, 2015 (regardless of ticket purchase date): Pay with Miles tickets are eligible for MQMs and MQSs. In addition, Pay with Miles tickets will earn mileage for the portion of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges remaining that is paid in currency after miles are applied to the ticket total.
For example, Mrs. TT and I booked a trip to Istanbul, Turkey last week during the Delta Fare Sale, using SkyMiles to pay for the $600 fare (60k SkyMiles). Not only did Pay with Miles require less SkyMiles than a standard redemption ticket, but we’ll also earn MQMs towards Delta Medallion status for 2017!
