Our Analysis

All of these offers are 25,000 more points than the typical offers. Hilton points are not often talked about in points and miles circles. However, there is plenty of value to be had with the Hilton Honors Program. Hilton has made several positive changes in the last few years which are a step in the right direction. The most noteworthy changes are as follows:

  • Pooling Points (since April 2017): You now have the option of pooling your points with friends and family members (up to 10 people total). This is a great option if you frequently travel with a spouse or significant other. You are allowed to share up to 500,000 points a year, which is a very generous cap.
  • Points & Money: Hilton Honors members can now choose nearly any combination of points and money using a new payment slider that starts at 5,000 Points. With this perk, points pricing will be more flexible, giving members the option to use their choice of points on hotel stays, any time, with no blackout dates.
  • Amazon Shop with Points: You have the ability to use Hilton Honors Points to shop at Amazon.com. The ratio on this is 0.2 cents per Hilton Honors point, which is not favorable and I generally wouldn’t recommend using your Hilton points on Amazon, however, the option is available.

Thrifty Tip #1: Learn more about why Hilton’s Points Pooling Feature is One of our Favorite Hotel Benefits.

Thrifty Tip #2: Not sure if you are eligible to earn the Hilton welcome offer? See our post on the Amex welcome offer eligibility tool. The tool will tell you whether or not you are eligible to earn the welcome offer bonus before submitting the application.

Bottom Line

You can squeeze quite a bit of value out of Hilton properties, especially if you have Gold status which is offered by both the Ascend and Business versions of the card. Just for holding Gold status, you will receive free breakfast at nearly every Hilton property worldwide.
