Help plan my trip to Hong Kong & Macau
During lunch today I came across another Hong Kong flight deal for this fall. This time on Delta for only $527. I usually don’t like to pay for flights but this was a thrifty deal at 3.5 cents per mile (under 5 cents = thrifty). I also have never been to Hong Kong, and the trip will get me to Platinum Delta Status. I quickly asked Mrs. TT if she was interested but she wasn’t able to. I then asked three friends and we all ended up booking before the deal disappeared around 1pm.
Thrifty Tip #1: Book flights and ask questions later. US law allows you to cancel all airfare purchases within 24 hours.
Thrifty Tip #2: Long cheap flights are a great way to attain airline status. The Hong Kong flight gives you over 15k Delta Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs), which will get you almost 2/3 of the way to Delta Silver Medallion status!
Thrifty Tip #3: You don’t have to actually fly to get airline status. Airline co-branded credit cards also are a great way to get you there!
We will be staying on points for the duration of the trip primarily at Hyatt and Starwood properties. The plan is to spend a majority of the 6 days in Hong Kong but we do plan to spend a night or two in Macau, getting there by ferry. Everything I have read makes it sound like Macau is Las Vegas on steroids, so it should be interesting.
