German flag carrier Lufthansa and its low-cost subsidiary Eurowings are making big moves, plotting six new routes between the U.S. and Germany starting in the spring and summer of 2020.

The airline group announced Wednesday that they'll add flights to Germany from Anchorage (ANC), Seattle (SEA), Phoenix (PHX), Las Vegas (LAS), Detroit (DTW), and Orlando (MCO). They'll all fly into either Munich (MUC) or Frankfurt (FRA).

Lufthansa Eurowings Routes

Here's an in-depth look at each route in the works, starting with the three new flights operated by Lufthansa.

  • Seattle (SEA) to Munich (MUC), with 6x weekly flights (all but Thursdays) starting June 1, 2020
  • Detroit (DTW) to Munich (MUC), with 5x weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) starting May 4, 2020

Both flights will be on brand new Airbus A350s.

Meanwhile, Eurowings will fly from four new U.S. cities to either Munich or Frankfurt. As One Mile at a Time notes, these routes will likely be seasonal, running just during the warm-weather months.

  • Las Vegas (LAS) to Munich (MUC), with 2x weekly flights (Mondays and Fridays) starting April 6, 2020.
  • Orlando (MCO) to Munich (MUC), with 3x weekly flights (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays) starting April 7, 2020.
  • Phoenix (PHX) to Frankfurt (FRA), with 5x weekly flights (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) starting April 29, 2020.
  • Anchorage (ANC) to Frankfurt (FRA), with 3x weekly flights (Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) starting June 1, 2020.

All these Eurowings flights will be on an Airbus A330, which features 2-4-2 seating in economy – a great way for you and a companion to fly long-haul.

Bottom Line

Lufthansa already flies more than 25 routes to the U.S., but this is a massive expansion for Lufthansa and Eurowings. This time next year, you'll have more options to get to Germany. And with any luck, that should make it cheaper.
