Delta is getting in the holiday spirit with a new holiday deal, giving travelers a 20% bonus when putting SkyMiles toward the cost of a Delta Vacations package.

Using SkyMiles to book Delta Vacations – bundles of airfare and hotel (or other add-ons like car rentals) typically gets you 1 cent per SkyMile toward your vacation – so 50,000 SkyMiles = a $500 discount. With this promotion, you'll get a 20% bonus when applying SkyMiles to the cost. So the same 50,000-SkyMile stash would get you $600 off.

This promotion runs through Saturday, Dec. 14. While it falls far short of the outstanding promotion from August when your SkyMiles were worth double, it's still a nice bonus.

Just head to Delta’s promotional page and start searching. Booking is simple. It seems almost any and every vacation package qualifies for this bonus redemption rate – you just need to have a SkyMiles membership – and, of course, some SkyMiles in your account.

One tremendous upside of using SkyMiles toward Delta Vacations is that you don't have to pay for the full trip with SkyMiles – you can put as many (or few) toward the cost of your trip as you'd like. And unlike a normal SkyMiles award booking, you still earn SkyMiles for your travel. And Delta is sweetening the deal for larger vacation bookings there, too.

Enter the promo code SMCHOICEB and you can earn up to 35,000 SkyMiles on a Delta Vacations booking of $7,000 or more. Or enter SMCHOICEA and you'd earn $350 cashback on the same booking. These bonuses are tiered, starting at 7,500 SkyMiles (or $75 cashback) on bookings of $1,500 to $2,999.

Bottom Line

Any bonus for your SkyMiles sounds sweet to us! You'll have to do the math on whether it saves money (or SkyMiles) to bundle your trip through Delta vacations versus booking separately.

Often, we find Delta Vacations can help you come out slightly ahead. And with this promotion, it's easier to get a bit more out of your SkyMiles.
