[Delta SkyMiles Sale] Any City in the United States to Europe for 42k SkyMiles Roundtrip!
Last week Delta announced a SkyMiles award sale to select cities, although they haven’t been promoting it very much. I received an email about a week ago, which offered Delta Medallion elites and American Express cardholders access to an exclusive sale to select European cities for only 42,000 SkyMiles (48k from West Coast)! This is 18k less than the 60k Skymiles typically required to fly round-trip to Europe. The flight sale for fares between March 4th and May 31st, 2016.
Now the truth of the original sale was that it was open to all SkyMiles members! Over the last couple days Delta has opened up the sale from almost every US city where Delta flies to almost all of their European destinations for only 42k SkyMiles! This hasn’t been published anywhere!
Thrifty Tip: Already booked an award fare during this time period? Call Delta and they will refund the difference!
- 42,000 SkyMiles Economy round-trip (West Coast 48k SkyMiles)
- Flights available March 4th through May 31st, 2016
- Minimum 7 day trip required
- Must book round-trip (one-way flights are 30k SkyMiles)
- Dublin, Ireland
- Nice, France
- Munich, Germany
- Stuttgart, Germany
- Frankfurt, Germany
- Zurich, Switzerland
- Brussels, Belgium
- Lots more!
The value here is incredible. You can fly from almost every city in the United States to Europe for less than your typical American Express Delta card sign-up bonus!
I did several searches to show you how much value you can squeeze out of this sale. I use Fargo, ND as an example of a small regional airport. You can fly from Fargo, ND to Nice, France for only 42k SkyMiles. This is normally a $1250-1600 ticket!
There is also great availability for direct flights from all of Delta’s main hubs (MSP, ATL, DTW, JFK, SEA, BOS, SLC). There is almost daily nonstop availability in April for many hub cities.
One of the most incredible things about the sale is the depth of the award space. Many times when booking an award fare, there is only one seat available on the entire plane, which makes booking for two impossible. I searched several flights and there were up to 9 seats available for booking. I personally have not seen this before. This simply means you can take your whole family if you’ve got enough SkyMiles!
If you have followed Thrifty Traveler in the last month you’ve seen some incredible flight deals. It would appear that global airline traffic is down, and airlines are trying to fill seats with sales like this one. Hopefully, Delta will come out with a Business Class sale soon! Right now this sale is only for Economy class seating.
I frequently hear people complain about how worthless SkyMiles are for flight redemptions. Many people call them “SkyPesos”, but sales like this show you just how valuable they are. I’d recommend booking ASAP as I’m not sure how long this nationwide sale will actually last. If you book make sure to leave us a message in the comments below!
