[Delta SkyMiles Sale] United States to Europe for 49k SkyMiles Roundtrip
Delta just announced a great sale on Economy and Delta One travel from the US to Europe. Economy fares start at 49k SkyMiles which is 11k less than the 60k Skymiles typically required to fly round-trip to Europe. Delta One (business class) starts at 107k SkyMiles round-trip, which is 18k SkyMiles less a normal ticket. The SkyMiles sale is good for fares between September 23rd – April 6th. Book by August 25th!
The Delta sale states it is for specific US cities, but as is typical with most of their sales, it works from almost every US city with Delta service! One of the most incredible things about the sale is the depth of the award space. Many times when booking an award fare, there is only one award seat available on the entire plane, which makes booking for two impossible. I searched several flights and there were up to 9 seats available for booking in Economy. This means you can take your whole family if you’ve got enough SkyMiles!
Thrifty Tip: Already booked an award fare during this time period? Call Delta and they should refund the difference!

Excellent availability! You can fly from almost every city in the United States to Europe for less than your typical American Express Delta card sign-up bonus.
I did several searches to show you how much value you can squeeze out of this sale. I use Fargo, ND as an example of a small regional airport. You can fly from Fargo, ND to Amsterdam for only 49k SkyMiles, with one short connection. This is normally a $1200 ticket.
There is also great availability for nonstop flights from all of Delta’s main hubs (MSP, ATL, DTW, JFK, SEA, BOS, SLC) in both Economy and Delta One. Flights out of Minneapolis had almost daily nonstop availability.
Thrifty Tip: Want to avoid high fees on award redemptions? Fly into Amsterdam vs. London. Fees are about $120 less if you avoid London.
The real value play of this sale is the Delta One tickets for 107k SkyMiles (or 102k from the NYC). The same nonstop Atlanta to Amsterdam flight below sells for $3946! Flying first or business class in a lay-flat seat is always the best way to maximize your point potential.
The sample flight is on an Airbus A330 and has the same seats featured in the lead photo of this post. Always try to fly the A330 or the Boeing 777 if you are flying Delta, which are equipped with the fancy reverse herringbone seats.
I frequently hear people complain about how worthless SkyMiles are for flight redemptions. Many people call them “SkyPesos”, but sales like this show you how valuable they are. I’d recommend booking ASAP as I’m not sure how long the award space will last. I’m planning a winter family trip to Rome so this sale couldn’t have come at a better time!
