Need a beach getaway? Join the club. Luckily, Delta has a massive SkyMiles deal to get you to the Caribbean islands this fall, winter, or even spring 2021!

And you don't need many SkyMiles to do it. Delta isn't advertising this sale, but we found flights from the East Coast to Grand Cayman (GCM), Aruba (AUA), Turks & Caicos (PLS), the Bahamas (NAS), and beyond starting as low as just 11,000 SkyMiles round-trip. That's less than most domestic round-trip flights!

International travel will be tricky for Americans for the foreseeable future, thanks to travel bans and restrictions as the country continues fighting coronavirus. But the Caribbean is the safest bet, as many countries are already welcoming U.S. travelers back – and many more plan to do the same in the coming weeks and months.

Want more award alerts like this one? We send them to Thrifty Traveler Premium members first, along with dirt-cheap domestic and international flight deals.

The beauty of this sale that it’s risk-free: Delta is offering free change or cancellation on all flights booked by June 30including SkyMiles award tickets. That means you could book today for a trip as far out as May 2021, then cancel if necessary and get your miles back free without paying the usual $150 redeposit fee.

There are great deals on fares to the Caribbean nationwide, but you'll find the cheapest rates by departing from the East Coast – especially Florida cities like Miami (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). And these ultra-low rates are basic economy awards – Delta began selling these no-frills fares even when using SkyMiles last year. If you want to pick your seat free and board earlier, you can upgrade to a main cabin fare for just 1,000-4,000 SkyMiles more.

Most airlines charge at least 30,000 miles for a round-trip flight to the Caribbean islands, which makes this sale a steal. Keep reading for a full list of availability, or just head to Delta.com and search to see what you can find from your home airport!

There's one downside to this sale: some considerable cash fees, at $70 to $120 or so per person, depending on where you're heading. Cash rates for the same flights can vary considerably, so it's worth doing some math and seeing if it makes more sense to use some SkyMiles or just book the flights with cash.

Thrifty Tip #1: When booking with SkyMiles, make sure to select “Flexible Dates” and “Price Calendar” to maximize the dates viewable.

Atlanta-based flyers may be all too aware of the SkyMiles hub penalty and the exorbitantly expensive award rates. But that's not the case here – you can hop out to the Bahamas (NAS) for just 16,000 SkyMiles round-trip! The Bahamas will be open to Americans starting July 1.

Bottom Line

Delta SkyMiles get a bad rap, and there's no denying they can be hard to use well. But these sales are a big part of the reason why we think they can be insanely valuable.

The Caribbean is one of the few bright spots for international travel, which makes this deal a slam dunk if you want to plan a beach getaway for the winter or spring of 2021. Combine the fact that you can easily cancel and get your miles back free if plans change, and this sale is tough to beat.
