Last fall, we announced that Delta had revamped their Sky Club menu and introduced several premium champagne options, which could be purchased with Delta SkyMiles. Reader Mike G. recently tipped us off that Delta has again changed their “The Bar” menu and added several new options, while removing some of the best value options on the menu.

Good News

Delta has one new bargain champagne option, which we’re big fans of. The champagne menu has been reduced and you can now only purchase the following bottles of champagne:

  • [NEW] Laurent Perrier La Cuvee Brut Rosé NV – 4,000 SkyMiles (retail $80)
  • Dom Perignon – 12,500 SkyMiles (retail $250)

New Bar Menu

The addition of the Laurent Perrier Rose to the menu at only 4,000 SkyMiles, offers a new bargain option. Mrs. TT is a sommelier and she believes that the Laurent Perrier is actually a better choice (and value) than the Dom Perignon at 12,500 SkyMiles. The current Dom Perignon vintage is 2009 and it’s generally considered a subpar vintage in comparison to other recent vintages. The Laurent Perrier is a great way to enjoy delicious champagne and stretch your SkyMiles.

Bad News

The bad news is that Krug and Cristal have been removed from the menu.  Both Krug and Cristal are considered superior to Dom Perignon by most wine critics and it’s sad to see them go as they provided a decent value for your SkyMiles. The Krug was a great value at only 10,000 SkyMiles, especially considering it cost fewer miles than the inferior Dom Perignon.

No longer available:

  • Krug – 10,000 SkyMiles (retail $200)
  • Louis Roederer Cristal – 13,750 SkyMiles (retail $275)

Where to Buy

Not all Delta Sky Club’s offer a full bar and the ability to buy champagne with SkyMiles. You will have to find a Sky Club with “The Bar” service. You should be able to see the bottles of champagne behind the bar in the cooler. You can find the full listing below or at Delta.com.

How to Access the Delta Sky Club

The easiest way to gain access to the Delta Sky Club is by holding the American Express Platinum charge card. Just for holding the card, you will gain free access to the Sky Club when you are flying Delta. This is one of the reasons why we think it is the best card for Delta flyersLearn more about this card and other travel rewards cards here.

You can also gain free access to the Delta Sky Club by holding their co-branded Delta Reserve credit card or by holding Diamond Medallion Elite status. Otherwise, a 1-day pass to gain access will cost you $59.

Bottom Line

We realize this deal won’t appeal to everyone, but the Sky Club champagne menu is a fun use of SkyMiles if you’d like to celebrate the start of your trip.
