Exactly how big of a discount depends on when you're flying and there's no rhyme or reason for which dates are the cheapest. Whether you have a trip in mind or already have a Southwest flight on the books, it's worth checking to see if you can take advantage of this sale.

One thing to note: Labor Day (Sept. 3) is a blackout date for this sale. Memorial Day weekend, though, is on the table.

Just head to the Southwest sale page and pick your home airport – or better yet, simply pull up Southwest's Low Fare Calendar to get a month-long view and find the best deals. There is no sale promo code on this deal, either. Just head to Southwest's sale page and start looking.

Already have a Southwest flight booked for later this year? You can easily rebook it online and pocket the difference as a Southwest credit – and those never expire!

The deals vary from airport to airport, but you'll see the $39 rates on the cheapest Wanna Get Away fares for Southwest's shorter, nonstop routes.

The easiest way to put it to use is for a cheap, nonstop flight to one of Southwest's major airports like Chicago-Midway (MDW): We alerted Thrifty Traveler Premium members to some dirt-cheap fares from tons of U.S. cities for $77 roundtrip!

Southwest Chicago deal

Nonstop flights to Chicago don't get much cheaper than this: It's just $77 roundtrip from all these cities.

And since using Southwest Rapid Rewards points hinges on the cash price, these lower fares mean you could get an even better deal using points and miles to book a Southwest flight this spring, summer, or fall. You can also snag these same flights for just 3,600 Rapid Rewards points roundtrip!

Southwest is a Chase transfer partner, so you can send Chase points from cards like the *chase sapphire preferred* to get the Southwest points you need to book these award flights.

  • This sale also applies to award fares booked using Southwest Rapid Rewards points (remember, Southwest is a Chase transfer partner!)
  • Eligible for travel from April 23 to June 5, 2024 in the continental U.S. and Aug. 6 to Nov. 20 in the continental U.S., Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.
    • Blackout dates include travel on Labor Day, Sept. 3.

That means you could score a deeply discounted ticket and then bring your companion for nearly free, paying only the taxes and fees on the ticket.

Bottom Line

Southwest is out with yet another big sale, offering cheap flights within the continental U.S. through the first weekend in June and again in late summer and fall starting at just $39. And you can save a ton whether you're paying cash or using points!

This sale could be your ticket to booking cheap fares for Memorial Day weekend, or a trip anywhere in the U.S. or Puerto Rico next fall. You can even modify your existing Southwest reservations to save even more with this sale.

But be sure to book by this Thursday, April 11 before midnight PST when this Southwest sale ends!
