Get $25 off $50 at Amazon with Amex Membership Rewards

Update: This offer is expired!

Earlier this week, Amazon announced a new joint offer with American Express. Link your Amex Membership Rewards account with your Amazon account in order to “Shop-with-Points”. Once linked, you can receive $25 off a $50+ purchase of anything sold by Amazon with promo code AMEX17EVER. This promotion will end on 12/31/2017, or once 80,000 customers have redeemed this offer, whichever happens first. Because of this, I would take advantage of this ASAP.

Thrifty Tip #1: To link your Amazon and American Express Membership Rewards account, click here.

How To Redeem This Offer

  1. Once you have linked your Amazon and Membership Rewards account, just add anything $50 or more that is shipped and sold from Amazon to your cart. This will not work for Amazon gift cards, however, it will work on the following 3rd party gift cards, just to name a few:
  2. Once you’re ready to check out, go to your payment options and choose the membership rewards credit card that you linked from the thrifty tip above.
  3. Pay for at least a portion of your order with Membership Rewards points. You are able to use just one point and pay the rest with the credit card (click ‘choose different amount’ to do this). I was able to do this per the screenshot below.
  4. Enter the promo code AMEX17EVER in the promo code box provided on the checkout page
  5. $25 of savings will be reflected on the final order checkout page.

Bottom Line

This offer is an easy way to save $25 and likely won’t be around much longer. I would recommend taking advantage of the offer as soon as possible. It is worth noting that this offer is listed as a targeted offer. However, we have not seen any data points of this not working for people with a membership rewards earning American Express credit card.

It does NOT work with the gift card…

    • Nick Serati says:

Which gift card are you referring to? As the article states, it will not work for Amazon.com store gift cards.

      • Claire says:

Any 3rd party GC, including Starbucks, as mentioned in the article. Tried Panera, Whole Foods, no go either. Have been trying to place an order since, even things sold by Amazon.com, still not working. Have they already reached 80,000 customers!?

        • Hey Claire. It appears this is a targeted offer. Although it works for most people, there are some that for some reason it will not. We added language as such to the post an hour ago. Don’t worry there will be more offers 🙂

Followed your steps, but when applying the promo code, I get this error: The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase.

I just recently signed up for the SPG Amex Business card. Do I still have an AMEX Membership Rewards account with this even though my points are credited to SPG?

    • Nick Serati says:

Hi Jason. Unfortunately the SPG card does not earn American Express Membership Rewards points, but rather earns Starwood Preferred Guest points. The Platinum, Premier Rewards Gold, Amex Everyday, Everyday Preferred and Amex Green Cards are your best bets for cards earning Membership Rewards

This isn’t working for me since 11:00 AM PST.

  6. Nick Serati says:

If you are having issues with the code working, make sure you’re purchasing items sold and shipped by Amazon.com. 3rd party items will not work. If it’s still not working, contact Amazon chat about the issue. They will likely tell you to complete your purchase and they will refund you the $25. This is a data point from Doctor of Credit.

  7. Nick Serati says:

Thanks for sharing. Looks like the 80,000 person cap may have been reached and this deal is potentially expired.

False alarm. The same Amazon.com accounts which failed repeatedly days ago work perfectly now. It seems there is a lag in enrolling in Amazon’s Pay with Membership Rewards and being able to use the promotion.
