The Westin Paris Vendome was originally built in 1878 and is centrally located in Paris's 1st arrondissement on the historic Rue de Rivoli across the street from the Tuileries Garden and the nearby Louvre. This was our second stay at the Westin Paris. Mrs. TT and I like the central location of the Westin and received a great room upgrade on our last stay, so we thought we would give it another try. As with almost all hotels in Paris it is not a thrifty affair. A standard room at the Westin Paris requires 20,000 Starpoints (down from 25,000 in '14), which is on the higher end of Starwood redemptions but it is definitely worth it for the location. If you're short on points rooms start out at €360 or $400 per night.
The hotel is located dead center for some the best sites in Paris. The Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe are just to the west of the hotel and the many museums and Notre-Dame are just to the south and east. The Tuileries Metro stop is a short 4 minute walk, only a block down from the hotel.
This go around I chose to use one of my Platinum suite night upgrades, and I was notified the week before that my upgrade went through. Before check in it showed that we were upgraded to a junior suite but after having to wait an hour to check in they upgraded us again to the Royal Suite which is the 2nd largest room at the hotel. When I recieved my room key the paper sleeve it came in had two room numbers on it. I asked why it had two room numbers and front desk attendant stated the room had two doors. At that point I knew we were in for a treat.
Our bedroom was really nothing special with a king sized bed, smaller bathroom, and a desk with nice view of the Tuileries Garden and the Eiffel Tower.
Mrs. TT and I were a little disappointed when we first got to the room and didn't figure out immediately that we were supposed to open the door to the adjacent room.
The living room was pretty outrageous especially when you consider most rooms in Paris are tiny. The living room had it's own ultra wide screen TV and a marble fireplace, which is not surprisingly no longer operational. I can't imagine this room has changed much since the late 1800's. It was cozy but it felt more like a museum than a hotel room.
We had a great view of the Eiffel Tower as well. Our last room had a view of the Louvre so it was nice to finally have a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
Thrifty Tip #1: Request the highest room available for the best views.
Thrifty Tip #2: The Tuileries lobby bar on the ground floor offer 25% off to SPG members.
The hotel also hosts rather large events and has various meeting rooms. I can't even imagine how much it must cost to rent the Imperial ballroom. Swanky!
If you are a Platinum SPG member, the breakfast is impressive with a full buffet served in the hotel restaurant. It had everything from pastries, free squeezed juices to cured meats. The breakfast buffet was quite a spread and much better than many other SPG properties. I'd make sure to eat breakfast early as it can get very busy.
Bottom Line
Overall we were again impressed with the treatment of SPG members having been 2 for 2 on getting great room upgrades. The Westin Paris Vendome Royal Suite costs around 3000 Euros ($3350) a night so we got an impressive value for our Starpoints! We'll definitely be staying at the Westin Paris again in the future.
